Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashi Rice has turned himself in to police in connection with his role in a car crash that left four people with minor injuries.

NBC, a partner of the American Sky News network, reported that the 23-year-old recipient was transferred to a prison in south Dallas after he surrendered himself to Glen Heights police on Thursday.

This comes after an arrest warrant was issued for him on April 10, according to NBC.

The football player was later let out of jail — a way to pay to stay out of jail until the defendant's court date — according to a spokesperson for the DeSoto City Manager's Office.

Rice was charged with aggravated assault, hit-and-run resulting in serious bodily injury and six counts of hit-and-run, after he was reportedly part of a group that crashed while driving a Lamborghini and a Corvette at high speeds on March 30.

Police added that the occupants of the Lamborghini and Corvette left the scene of the accident on the North Central Expressway without providing information or checking whether anyone needed medical attention.

In a statement last week, Rice apologised, telling fans he took full responsibility for his actions and would cooperate with authorities.

“I sincerely apologize to everyone affected by Saturday’s accident,” the football star wrote on Instagram.

Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia said in a statement after the arrest warrants were announced that the investigation is ongoing and has no timeline, according to NBC.

An NFL spokesman said Wednesday that the league continues to “monitor all developments” in the case.

Rice recorded 79 catches and 938 yards with a team-leading seven receptions in 16 games after being selected by Kansas City in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

The wide receiver also had 26 catches for 262 yards and a score in four playoff games to help the Chiefs secure their second straight Super Bowl title in February.
