The man arrested was identified as the killer of Major Emmanuel Sánchez Soto, who was attacked while protecting his family from an attack in Quinta Normal, Santiago.

Colombian authorities on Tuesday arrested a man accused of killing a Chilean Carabineros officer on April 10, sparking an uproar in the country.

A 30-year-old Venezuelan man was caught in Popayan, southwest of Colombia, and according to police he wanted to go to two other cities until he reached the northern part of the country in an attempt to avoid the authorities.

The Chilean Carabineros confirmed the capture of Dionis Jr. Orozco, or Yendris Segundo Paz—their two identities—in a joint operation between the Chilean Public Ministry and Colombian police.

“Currently, all international coordination for his extradition is being carried out,” the Carabineros said on their X account, earlier on Twitter.

The arrestee has been identified as the killer of Major Emmanuel Sánchez Soto, who was attacked while protecting his family from an attack in Quinta Normal, Santiago, Chile.
