According to WikiLeaks, the High Court in London, United Kingdom, “granted him bail and he was released in the afternoon at Stansted Airport, where he boarded a flight and departed the United Kingdom.”

WikiLeaks acknowledged that Assange’s freedom was the result of a global campaign involving foundation organizers, press freedom advocates and leaders from across the political spectrum, including the United Nations (UN).

“This created space for lengthy negotiations with the US Department of Justice, leading to an agreement that has not yet been formally closed. We will provide additional information as soon as possible,” the WikiLeaks statement said.

In that regard, the media thanked those who fought for Assange’s freedom, saying that “as editor-in-chief, Julian fought hard for these principles and for people’s right to know.”
