US offers $10 million reward for world’s most wanted hacker

In February of this year, the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency (NCA), together with police forces from various countries, managed to take down LockBit, a ransomware group that has emerged as one of the most active in history.

Three months later, the United States targeted the group’s leader, Russian Dmitry Yuryevich Koroshev. According to him, a $10 million reward will be offered for information leading to his arrest and subsequent conviction.

Accusations against Dimitri

Dmitry Koroshev faces 26 charges in federal court in New Jersey. He is charged with one count of conspiracy to commit fraud, extortion and computer activity; one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud; eight counts of willful damage to a protected computer; eight counts of extortion relating to confidential information on a protected computer; and eight counts of extortion in connection with damaging a protected computer.

According to the United States Department of Justice, LockBit allegedly carried out attacks against more than 2,500 victims distributed in at least 120 countries, 1,800 of whom were in the United States.

“As part of our tireless efforts to take down ransomware groups and protect victims, the Department of Justice has filed two dozen criminal charges against the executive of LockBit, one of the world’s most dangerous ransomware companies,” commented Lisa Monaco. Deputy Attorney General.
