Two Venezuelans charged with murder of Texas girl

The results of the sexual assault report on the girl victim are pending, police said.

Prosecutors filed murder charges Friday against two men suspected of killing a 12-year-old girl whose body was found in a Houston creek after she disappeared while walking to a grocery store.

A filing in a Harris County, Texas court, names attorneys who may speak on behalf of Johan Jose Rangel Martinez, 21, and Franklin Jose Pena Ramos, 26, who were jailed for the death of Jocelyn Nungere.

After her body was found in a shallow creek on Monday, the police said she had run away from her house a short distance away the previous night.

The coroner determined the cause of death to be strangulation.

Police arrested Martinez and Ramos on Thursday. Police said surveillance video shows two men approaching Jocelyn before taking her to a store in Houston.

The three walked together to a bridge, where Jocelyn was killed, police said.

According to a report released Friday by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the two men are Venezuelan citizens who entered the United States without authorization in March.

Martinez was arrested on March 14 and Peña on March 28 by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) near El Paso, Texas, about 1,078 kilometers from Houston.

Both were later ordered to appear in court and released. How they got to Houston is unknown.

According to court documents filed Friday, the suspects allegedly dragged the girl under the bridge and stayed with her for more than two hours.

They stripped her to her pants, tied her to death and dumped her body in a swamp, a Harris County prosecutor wrote in a court filing.

Police said it was not known whether Joslin knew the men. The girl’s mother, Alexis Nungare, told Griv-TV that she did not recognize them.

“My child doesn’t deserve this,” Nungere said.
