Among those arrested are businessmen, photographers and influencers.

Colombian authorities arrested 185 pedophiles and pedophiles last month, including more than 3,200 files containing images and videos of child sexual abuse content, they said Wednesday.

These operations were used in 11 of the 32 departments in Colombia, notably in the capital Bogotá, Medellin, Cartagena and Cali, and in the municipalities of Valle del Cauca and Antioquia.

Additionally, Colombia has increased border controls since April to deny entry to foreigners who have been convicted of sex crimes after recent cases of alleged sexual exploitation of minors in the country.

Those caught, whose identities have not been released, face charges of producing, storing and distributing child sexual abuse material, for which they face up to 20 years in prison.

Most of those detained are Colombian and eleven are foreigners: seven Venezuelans, two Americans, one Chinese and one Indonesian, the press office of the Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Interpol (DJIN) told The Associated Press.

The profiles of accused pedophiles vary from case to case. Some led a double life with legal work and illegal distribution of child pornography in chat rooms, while others used their images on social networks or as amateur photographers.

Col. Edwin Masleider Urrego, the director of Digi, said in a statement to the press that some of those arrested produced illegal material distributed through the dark web, a part of the Internet hosted on an encrypted network. Special tools that provide anonymity.

Arrested in Cajicá, 28 kilometers from Bogotá, the alias “Hunter” is accused of consuming and distributing more than 2,600 images and videos of sexually abusing minors.

The man worked as a security guard and was a member of online groups in which he “made a virtual purchase of a collection of 150 videos of other men sexually abusing children for $78,” according to Djinn.

In La Estrella, a municipality in the northwest of the country, the alias “Dao” was captured, identified as the owner of a company that makes parties for children and youth.

More than 226 images and videos of child sexual abuse were found on him, in one of which he abused a girl aged around four.

The alias “El Fedicista 22”, captured in the south of Bogotá, used seven false profiles in which he tried to attract boys and girls, and after gaining trust from them, he asked for nude videos.

Along with consuming this illegal content, he shared hundreds of videos on the internet.

Two complaints filed with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (Ncmec) in the United States are key to locating the alias “Tao,” the Colombian authority said.

It was assisted by Homeland Security Investigations, the investigative arm of the US Department of Homeland Security.

The media reported that influencers and photographers were among those arrested.
