A New York jury announced this Thursday (05/30/2024) that the former US president, Donald TrumpConvicted of concealing payments to a pornographic film actor, the earthquake has hit his presidential campaign five months before the election in which he wants to regain the White House.
In the historic first criminal trial against a former US president, Trump, 77, faces 34 counts of false business records, all related to paying porn actress Stormy Daniels a total of $130,000 in 2016 payments to his lawyer. Alleged sexual intercourse in 2006.
Awaiting sentencing
Trump, for his part, immediately called the guilty verdict a “disgrace” and will surely appeal the decision.
The verdict puts the United States in uncharted political territory, but it has not stopped Trump from running for president, and Judge Juan Mercant, who will announce the sentence on July 11, will sentence him to prison.
The ruling comes just weeks before the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, where Trump will receive the party’s formal nomination to face Democratic President Joe Biden on Nov. 5.
