The Boston Celtics finally won their 18th Banner Championship after defeating the Dallas Mavericks in five games in the 2024 NBA Finals. They then secured all of their key players with new deals or contract extensions, except for backup forward Sam Hauser. And then they decided to sell the team?
You read that right, and if you’re a little confused by this unexpected curveball that no one but an April Fool’s Day joke could have predicted, you’re not alone. The Boston Celtics said in a statement that the owners will sell “majority ownership” in 2024 and 2025, with the sale set to be completed in 2028. Wyck Groesbeck is expected to remain governor through 2028.
