A Venezuelan taxi driver who lived in Bolivia was killed and his body was found in some bushes in the Las Maras neighborhood of Pampa de la Isla Citadel.
The crime of Bernardo Pinilla Pena, reported El Regional del Julia.
According to prosecutor Daniel Orduno, the body was bound and had signs of violence around the neck. A later forensic examination confirmed the cause of death as mechanical asphyxiation.
His killers escaped with their vehicle, a Kia Soluto, which was later recovered by uniformed personnel of the Directorate of Vehicle Theft Prevention (DPROV).
Authorities found the car after the criminals put it up for sale on Facebook’s marketplace for buying and selling. They asked $5,200 for the car.
Julian Urrego, a Colombian national, has been detained for the crime and faces charges of aggravated robbery and murder.
Also arrested was Walter Facundo DL from Argentina and accused of selling the victim’s car from the state of Trujillo.
One theory suggests that the foreigners committed the murder because of a debt owed to the Venezuelan taxi driver by a Colombian. The evidence is on the cell phones of the arrested.
